 2023 Preview 


       Gadsden City completed the 2022 season with a 7-5 record. Last year Gadsden City captured the region eight title and a number one seed in the Class 6A playoffs. They finished region play with a 5-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Titans since the 2014 season. Gadsden City reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Mountain Brook by a score of 37-6.

       The Titans won as many games as in any season since 2016. It marked the first time since the 2016 season that the Titans qualified for the playoffs.

       Since 2010, Gadsden City has gone a combined 70-74. Their 48.6% winning percentage ranks 35th in Class 6A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 17 seasons, Gadsden City has managed to compile a record of 107-86. Their 55.0% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 6A and 140th in the AHSAA.




       The Titans are led by head coach Ali Smith who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 16-26 over the past four seasons at Gadsden City. Under his direction the Titans have qualified for the playoffs once. They have won one region crown with Coach Smith.

       After getting blown out in their first two games last year, the Titans recovered to win a region championship. They improved as the season went along. Each season under Coach Smith the Titans have improved their win total. They hope to continue the success this season. The team will be young as 26 seniors graduated this spring but that does not mean the team will not be talented.

       A very difficult non-region schedule with Carver Montgomery, Hewitt-Trussville, Hartselle and Hillcrest Tuscaloosa will be hard to navigate even for the best of teams in 6A.

       The Titans are considered one of the favorites for the region eight championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

      Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. will return at CB to anchor the defense.

      TJ Worthy returns at running back for the Titans in 2023.

       The Titans open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Carver Montgomery on Friday, August 25 at Titan Stadium. Last year the Carver Montgomery Wolverines finished with an overall record of 8-2 and in first place in Class 6A region two. The Wolverines lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to St. Pauls by a score of 13-0.

       This will be the second meeting between Gadsden City and Carver Montgomery on the football field. The Titans have a 1-0-0 record against the Wolverines. They last met in with

       Gadsden City lost 6A All-State  offensive lineman Ryan Wood to graduation. He was named to the first team last season.

       The Titans return 6A All-State Senior punter Gabriel Brito. He was named to the first team last season. The Titans also return Senior defensive back DeAndre Kirkpatrick Jr.. He was named to the second team.

The Super 6 State Championships began in 1996. Since then all title games were played at Legion Field in Birmingham until 2009.
